An outdoor switchgear assembly  ( OSA ) is an electrical installation used to receive and distribute electrical energy.

The distribution device contains a set of switching devices, busbars and connecting buses, auxiliary  relay protection and automation  devices and metering and measuring equipment.

Scope of application

Complete switchgear units can be used for both indoor and outdoor installation (in this case they are called  KRUN ).  KRUN  are widely used in cases where compact placement of the switchgear is required. In particular,  KRUN  is used at power plants, city substations, for power supply of oil industry facilities (oil pipelines, drilling rigs), in ship power consumption schemes.

If the main equipment  of the switchgear  is enclosed in a shell filled with SF6 gas, then the switchgear is abbreviated as  KRUE .

A switchgear unit in which all devices are located in one compartment is called a single-side service assembly chamber ( KSO ). As a rule,  KSO  is truly single-side service, most often has open busbars, and no rear wall.

Equipment

As a rule, the  switchgear  cabinet is divided into 4 main compartments: 3 high-voltage - cable compartment (input or line), circuit breaker compartment and busbar compartment, and 1 low-voltage - relay cabinet.

• The relay compartment contains low-voltage equipment:  relay protection and automationdevices , switches, and circuit breakers. As a rule, the relay compartment door contains light signaling equipment, electricity metering and measurement devices, and cell control elements.
• The switch compartment contains a power switch or other high-voltage equipment (disconnecting contacts, fuses,  VT). Most often, in  switchgear,  this equipment is placed on a roll-out or withdrawable element.
• The busbar compartment contains power buses connecting the  switchgearsection cabinets .
• The input section is used to accommodate cable termination, measuring current transformers, voltage transformers, and  surge arresters.
